9) "A
Very Personal message from Attorney Gandy"
I also have a very personal
reason why I have chosen to work in this field. You see, I am also
someone who has been through bankruptcy. In the fall of 1990, faced
with my own mounting debt problems from a less than successful
business venture, I looked into personal bankruptcy and decided
it was the right choice for me. The process ended successfully
with a elimination of most of my debts at the time. But, I was
not fully informed by the attorney who represented me about which
particular debts were clearly able to be eliminated for a fresh
start and which kind had special rules about them. He was a lawyer
who practiced law in a number of areas besides bankruptcy and may
not have had the time or inclination to keep up with the subtleties
of bankruptcy law, or to carefully review each client’s case.
(This is something that I make a strong point of doing by keeping
abreast of the changes in the bankruptcy code and the court decisions
interpreting it. I do this by regular study and frequent bankruptcy
law seminars.) Had I known then what I know now, my own case would
have turned out much better for me. |
